You’re never too young to invest in your skin and in good skin care. One of the biggest misconceptions that people have about their skin and skin care is that you don’t need to worry about it too much until you are in your 40’s, 50’s or 60’s. However, as soon as you are in your teens, you should have an appropriate plan for taking care of your skin that includes sunscreen and taking some preventative measures. When you hit 30, however, is when you should start making bigger changes to your skincare routine so that your skin will stay healthy and vibrant looking in the years to come.  Let’s take a closer look at four things you should do for your skin after you turn 30.

Try Microneedling

Microneedling is probably the biggest trend in skin care right now. By making tiny punctures in your skin, microneedling triggers the body to release its own natural growth factors in response, specifically new collagen and elastin, in a way only the body can do, delivering the purest form of each internally, without additives or preservatives. Micro-needling is extremely effective for treating a variety of skin conditions including wrinkles, scarring, (including acne scarring), stretch marks from pregnancy or weight loss/gain, texture or dryness problems, and hyper-pigmentation issues.  Additionally, it has the advantage of being utilized on skin that otherwise may not be well-suited to the irritation of chemical peels or the heat of lasers.  Micro-needling involves very little downtime and the end result is smoother, younger-looking skin.

Invest in Good Skin Care

Proper skin care is a must at any age, but when we are young and enjoying our smooth, tight, beautiful skin, wrinkles and dark spots are the last thing on our minds! By the time you hit 30, it’s time to start investing in anti-aging skin care products that contain ingredients like glycolic acid and retinol.  Most women also find that they need to pay more attention to the type of moisturizer they use.  It’s a good idea to consult a professional aesthetician who can recommend the best type of products for your individual skin type.

Use Sunscreen Everyday

Protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun is the single most important thing anyone can do to their skin looking it’s best.  Not only is the sun a major cause of skin cancer, but sun exposure causes sagging, wrinkles, dark spots, and generally contributes to skin that looks older than a person’s actual age.  If you haven’t been diligent about using sunscreen, now is the time to start.

Get Botox

You may have noticed that more and more thirty (and even twenty) somethings are getting Botox on a regular basis. You may think that you shouldn’t get Botox until you start noticing fine lines and wrinkles, but we encourage some of our patients to start getting Botox before their wrinkles get deeper and their fine lines get worse; as a sort of preventative measure.

Taking good care of your skin in your 30’s will set you up for better skin throughout your life.
